For business/training for 5 weeks. Europe, land of the itty bitty cars. Also, my French is rusty. I had a woman approach me on the train and ask me something, the first half of which I understood, but lost the last part entirely.
I drove through LeMans last time I was here in France two years ago, but I don't know if I'll have time to do any touristing around the work schedule I have. Still, doing redline on the Mulsanne straightaway in a rented tiny Peugeot diesel is an experience I wouldn't mind repeating.
I did miss the Paris train system though, it's nice to be able to travel pretty much anywhere for <20 euro. That was something Ireland didn't have when the fiancee and I went last year, though we did a crosscountry tour so it would've been difficult to manage without renting a car.
Any good automotive things I should see that the SNCF will take me to if I have a spare weekend?

Awesome! It reminds me of my trip in my rented Citroen . I didn't get to drive the Mulsanna straight though. How can someone get in and drive the track?

Say what about Peugeot diesels on the Mulsanne straight?

Enjoy your time! My wife and I were stationed in Germany for awhile and enjoyed trips to France. Paris sucked but we loved Normandy

Came here to recommend that as well. I also assumer you only staying in Paris, so obviously go to the flagship "dealerships" on the Champs Elysée. BUT, you should see if the Dijon-Prenois track is having any events while you're there. Dijon is a neat city roughly 1.5 hours from Paris by TGV. Also, they have mustard on tap. And Dijon is quite beautiful and not inundated with tourists.

The entire track used to be made up of public roads. Now only about 1/2 - 2/3 still is, the mulsanne strait included. The chicanes were added on the side of the public road.

Thanks! I was here in 2012 on Bastille day, so I got to experience the Eiffel tower with full pomp and circumstance, along with the traditional tourist traps in Paris, and Versailles, Mt. St. Michel, and a few other fun things.
I still need to check our Normandy and also the south coast, especially near Nice and Marseilles.

Yup, exactly what he said. I was driving down the road in Mulsanne (the city) and started seeing footage signs and was like "holy crap! I'm on the Mulsanne straight!" and then gunned it. And was subsequently passed by some chaps on bikes going 200km/hr

I went down there in 2012 when the Tour de France was finishing up, saw all the good ones, great recommendation though.
I will try and see Dijon, if possible, thanks for the recommendation!

If you've already been to the cite automobile, and will be in Paris, the circuit Paul Ricard (near Marseilles, a 3h ride by TGV from Paris) is awesome, has a great museum (or had, when I went there a few years back) and often has cool racing or driving events.

Dijon is beautiful? I've never been there, but one of my best friends comes from there. He and his friends universally describe it as a total shit-hole, although I don't think they're talking architecture.

Normandy is great! I really love Deauville and Trouville. You've done Le Mans already, did you stop and visit the Musee des 24 heures ? Depending on where in France you're staying, a stop at the Nordschleife for the Touristenfahrten should be certainly on the wishlist.

Haha yah I guess I should have been a little more detailed. I lived there for 6 months very close to the center of town so I was surrounded by all of the old architecture and streets. The suburbs are kind of shitty but the city center is pretty neat.

Yeah, that sounds about right. The old part is probably nice looking, but the comments I've heard were about it being boring - not such an issue if you're not living there long-term.
